First Fundraiser Helps Send 99 Children to School

First Fundraiser

Nkongsamba Children Inc. Founder Brice Nengsu Kenfack helped raise donations that will allow 99 disadvantaged children from his native Cameroon, Africa, to go to school. Kenfack, who held a series of fundraising events for his 501(c)3 charity Nkongsamba Children, Inc., expressed his gratitude for the support of his colleagues at Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P.

“Because of amazing donors like Shook, Nkongsamba Children was able to donate scholarships to 99 students from six different high schools to be spent on tuitions, books, lunches and uniforms,” Kenfack said.

The money raised was used to organize a basketball event during which students from various schools received scholarships based upon their grades as follows:

  • $180 to the first 15 students;
  • $150 to the next 25;
  • $120 to the next 30;
  • $90 to the next 20; and
  • $65 to the final 9.

Tuition is approximately $200 U.S. dollars for most children, and many children don’t graduate from high school because parents can’t afford it. The children with scholarships now will be able to attend school.

Nkongsamba Children also donated food and other supplies (blankets and bed sheets) to two orphanages for a value of $600, and supplies (chalk, blackboard, and more) to one kindergarten for a value of $200.

Kenfack set up the charity with a group of friends originally from Cameroon to help the children of Nkongsamba, his hometown. The fundraising event included a basketball game and visits to orphanages. Kenfack hopes to make this fundraising event a yearly occurrence.
